Yásnaya Elena Aguilar is a Mexican linguist, writer, and human rights activist. She has published numerous essays on indigenous linguistic rights, indigenous women, and language and violence. She is also a contributor to the Mexican magazine Este País and author of the blog Ayuujk,4, which provides a critical perspective of language policies that force Indigenous peoples to abandon their native languages to avoid discrimination. She is also involved in raising consciousness about environmental problems in Mexico, especially the lack of access to water.

Co-Sponsored by the Center of Mexican American Studies and the Department of Modern Languages.
