Favier holds two Ph.D. degrees, one in physics and one in metallurgy. He flew on STS-78 Columbia for a 16-day life and microgravity SpaceLab mission which was the first to combine both full microgravity studies and life science investigations.
He was Deputy Director for Space Technology and Deputy Director for Advanced Concepts and Strategy at CNES (the French equivalent of NASA), Director of the Solidification Laboratory at the French Atomic Energy Commission and Research Program Director at the International Space University.
Favier is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics. He was awarded the French Legion D’Honneur, the highest civilian award given by the French government, the NASA Space Flight Medal, the Gold Medal of the City of Grenoble, Zellidja Association 2nd prize, French Academy of Literature, and E. Brun Price Award French Academy of Sciences.
