Filmmaker Joy Davenport will discuss her documentary Fannie Lou Hamer's America after a screening as part of UTA's Black Heritage Celebration.

The film chronicles civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer through oral histories, powerful songs, personal letters and hard-to-find, rarely seen video footage. Hamer was a dynamic and fearless civil rights legend.

The event is free and sponsored by the African American Faculty and Staff Association. Co-sponsors include the Center for African American Studies and the UTA Libraries.

OUTSTANDING PROGRAM! This independent film was incredibly well-done and an absolute pleasure and learning experience to watch! The filmmaker was amazingly gracious in answering questions and explaining her creative process! I wish the marketing of this event were more effective...
