What happens to the dead when they or their next of kin cannot cover the cost of burial or cremation? In this talk, Eli Shupe will discuss the use of unclaimed bodies in medical teaching and research, with a special focus on current practices in Tarrant and Dallas Counties. She will argue that some forms of cadaver procurement currently in use are both unprofessional and immoral.
Dr. Eli Shupe is an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Humanities as well as co-director of the Medical Humanities program at UTA. Her research focuses on topics in both biomedical ethics and the philosophy of mind.
