Digital Scholarship Series: Student Showcase “The Life and Times of S. Carter”

This semester, students taking “The Life and Times of S. Carter” put Jay Z’s The Black Album (2003) in a broad African American literary continuum of autobiographical and semi-autobiographical works. This digital humanities course gave students hands on experiences working with metadata sets and content management software. They used their skills to identify trends and notable features of Jay Z’s music.

In this research presentation, students will highlight how metadata can be used to understand literary history and engage in interdisciplinary research. They will present their findings and reflect on their experiences using data analytic methodologies to analyze Jay Z’s music.
