Deaf Awareness Month Mini Exhibit
Special Collections celebrates Deaf Awareness Month
Deaf Awareness Month aims to increase awareness of Deaf issues, people, and culture while emphasizing the positive aspects of deafness, encouraging inclusion, and raising awareness of organizations that support those who are deaf.
The World Federation of the Deaf first celebrated International Day of the Deaf in 1958. The day of awareness was later extended to a full week to coincide with the anniversary of the first World Congress of the WFD, held in September 1951.
Please visit the Atrium of Central Library through September 30th to view a collection of items highlighting and celebrating deaf culture!
