The artistic practice of photography has rapidly transformed as we move further and further into the industrialized age. However, with the onset of technology and the ease of access to cellular phones equipped with cameras, the tools and artists of past traditions are lesser known by our current generations.

For the fall 2023 exhibition, A Developing Tradition: Photography at UTA, we will be highlighting the photography area within the Art & Art History Department, including current and former faculty, in order to show a wide variety of methods and techniques. Each artist has self-curated selections of their own work to show a progression of their individual styles over the course of their careers, creating a uniquely personal interpretation of their evolution as artists. Also on view are a historical collection of cameras, ranging from early 8 x 10 devices of the Victorian era to the Polaroid, showing the diverse advancement of the tool throughout the ages.

Please join us throughout the semester to celebrate the art form and practice of photography and to view the works of our artists and faculty.

Monday, September 18 – Thursday, November 30; 10am – 5pm. Visual Resource Commons & Gallery, Ste. 2109, Fine Arts Building, 2nd floor. *Please note that this is a university gallery and sometimes gallery is closed due to teaching or other scheduled activities. Please email or call to confirm before attending to guarantee availability.

Opening Reception will be held on Friday, September 29, 5 – 8pm with artists on hand for discussion about their practice and a specialty tintype portrait session offered by Scott Hilton while supplies last. Light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be provided.
