As a Curator and Publications Manager at The Broad, Ed Schad has contributed to major exhibitions featuring artists such as Robert Therrien, Mickalene Thomas, William Kentridge, Takashi Murakami, and Shirin Neshat. His writing has appeared in leading publications including Art Review, Frieze, Flash Art, and The Brooklyn Rail, among others. In 2021, he was named a fellow at Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities, and in 2023 he published Letters Apart, a collaborative poetry project with painter Liat Yossifor.

Ed's recommended publications are on display at UTA Libraries as part of Visiting Artist Bookshelf initiative organized collaboratively by the Department of Art and History and UTA Libraries.

About the CWRC Inaugural Symposium

Each spring, the Child Welfare Research Center (CWRC) will host an annual symposium that brings together faculty, staff, students, practitioners, policymakers, and community members to advance child welfare research and its application. The symposium features both research presentations highlighting the work of CWRC leadership and affiliates, and practice-focused training workshops responding to the training needs in our community.

Grounded in the CWRC’s mission to build evidence on effective prevention and intervention practices, the symposium emphasizes scholarship that contributes to child, family, and community wellbeing, particularly for those involved or at risk of involvement with child welfare systems. Through this convening, CWRC seeks to strengthen University–community partnerships, promote evidence‑based policy and practice, and support the translation of rigorous research into real‑world impact across Texas and beyond.

Throughout the space, you’ll find a wide range of work created by our students and faculty: from refined vessels and functional pieces to sculptural forms and collector works. Each piece reflects a semester of dedication, experimentation, and craftsmanship, offering something unique for every eye and every space.

We accept credit cards, checks, Apple Pay, and IDTs for department purchases. This is a cashless event; thank you for your understanding

A Tradition of Art, Craft, and Community

What began in the mid-1990s as a modest fundraiser on the loading dock behind the Fine Arts Building- initiated by artist David Keens - has grown into one of the most anticipated events in our program. Today, it continues to support student artists, provide scholarships, and sustain the tools and materials essential to our studio practice.

Every purchase directly contributes to this mission. Half of the proceeds go to the artists, while the remainder supports scholarships, materials, equipment, and ongoing studio development.

Thank you for being part of this tradition and for supporting our students. We look forward to welcoming you on Friday, May 1, for this special preview.

Our students and faculty have been working all semester to create a vibrant collection of handcrafted glass artworks - from delicate vessels and sculptural pieces to unique gifts perfect for celebrating the season. Every piece is one-of-a-kind and made with care, skill, and a lot of heart.

Throughout the day, you’ll also be able to enjoy live glassblowing demonstrations, where molten glass transforms into finished works right before your eyes. It’s always a little bit of magic.

This event is free and open to everyone, and every purchase directly supports our students through scholarships, materials, and the continued growth of our glass program.

In collaboration with partner units across the University, The Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence (CRTLE) will host the AI Course Redesign Institute on May 14. This hybrid/flexible format provides face-to-face and virtual options to join with asynchronous learning for everyone and brings UTA faculty together for a highly practical, hands-on experience focused on AI literacy, career readiness, and course level application. This institute is designed for instructors who want time to explore, try, redesign, and leave with something tangible and not just a “sit and get” experience.

Rather than focusing on “what AI might do someday,” this institute centers on what faculty are doing now, what employers are asking for, what AI Literacy skills are needed, and how we can intentionally align AI literacy learning outcomes with disciplinary teaching and student success.

Exhibition launch will be held in coordination with the opening reception for The Gallery at UTA’s spring exhibition, If You Could See What I See: A New Generation Explores Texas Art, on Saturday, February 7, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. A panel discussion will be held at 11 a.m. and refreshments will be served 12-2 p.m.

Highlighted are several artworks from the Charles T. Williams Memorial Collection. Considered to be one of the first significant modern sculptors in Texas, Williams was known for innovative abstract forms that veered away from the popular art styles of Realism and Regionalism that depicted the human experience in more life-like and easily recognizable ways during the early and mid-20th century. Among the collection are several of Williams’ contemporaries, including Roy Fridge, Jim Love, Gene Owens, and Ed Storms. Williams himself is featured in the UTA Public Art Collection, and his sculpture Terminal Trio stands in front of the north façade of the Fine Art Building.

Also on view are a series of paintings and prints from both historical and contemporary artists of Texas. Please join us throughout the semester to celebrate these artists and their works.

An accompanying exhibit will allow viewers to journey through ice and time by exploring the pivotal maps that defined Antarctica from the cartographic collections at UTA's Special Collections.
