POW! UTA Libraries Pitch of the Week Contest

POW! Is a fun, fast-paced, competitive event for students from diverse backgrounds, subject disciplines and levels of experience to sharpen their teamwork skills, think on their feet, and communicate their creative ideas. Students are put on the spot to work together in a safe, positive, low-risk environment.

POW! is a game-show-style contest where teams of three or four students compete to pitch their proposals to a randomly selected prompt. Teams have 20 minutes to brainstorm and develop their pitch—it can be an invention, a new business, a product, a service, a solution to pressing problem… anything that speaks to the given prompt! Teams then have 5 minutes to present their pitches, which are judged by local community and business leaders, UTA faculty, Peer Academic Leaders, and the audience.

POW! takes place at the UTA FabLab, on the first floor of Central Library every Thursday in November between noon and 1:00 (excluding Thanksgiving day). We invite ALL undergraduate students at UTA to register to compete, but be sure to read the rules before you register, some conditions apply. We invite all UTA community to come spectate the fun! Audience participation is a key component, we’ll be asking you to weigh in with your own thoughts about the prompts, as well as vote for the best pitch!

Prizes, you ask? HECK YES, there will be prizes!

Every contestant will receive at least a $10 gift card from a choice of vendors* just for participating. Members of teams that advance to the final round will get at least a $20 gift card, and members of the winning team get to upgrade to a $50 gift card! Plus, there will be popcorn and refreshments for everyone, even the audience--arrive early, refreshments don't last long!

* Choices include, MakerShed, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Starbucks, and UTA printing funds.
